Ryoji Ikeda’s new trilogy data-verse, commissioned by Audemars Piguet, is an audiovisual symphonic suite that attempts to encompass the tiniest (elementary particles) to the greatest (Universe) scale in Nature. data-verse is the ultimate chapter of Ikeda’s audiovisual series that first began in 2000, which focuses on his own data-driven research and aesthetics. Through his mathematical composition and aesthetics, massive scientific data set will be processed, transcribed, converted, transformed, de/re/meta-constructed and orchestrated to visualize and sonify the different dimensions that co-exist in our world between the visible and the invisible. data-verse will eventually embody the “universe of data” by the “data of universe”.

Store X The Vinyl Factory presents the Japanese artist’s latest multi-sensory installation.

The latest iteration of Ryoji Ikeda’s ongoing test pattern series, test pattern [N°12] is now open at Studio One, Store Studios, 180 The Strand in London.

Commissioned by Store X The Vinyl Factory, the immersive installation sees Ikeda convert data (from music, sound, photo and video) into monochrome binary patterns that are generated in real-time, and envelop the viewer in a disorientating, highly-charged kinetic environment.

A stunning installation mapping the universe that can be observed from its precise location

Coinciding with the performances of Ryoji Ikeda: concert pieces, a large outdoor audiovisual experience appears in the courtyard of ROHM Theatre Kyoto. From a beach in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 to a 400-meter wall at a salt manufacturing site in Germany and an art museum in France, the radar is a series of site-specific spectacles.

This new iteration features a giant screen, on to which are mapped the images of space that can be observed from the exact latitude and longitude of the installation location, based on a vast database of information. The result is a sophisticated fusion of sound and video presenting a unique opportunity to encounter the interface of our universe, a truly immense space beyond the scope of ordinary perception.
