Sweating the Archive – (in)tangible, (in)visible, (im)material
I am pleased to invite you to Sweating the Archive, a one-day symposium taking place on May 14th at the Art and Science Interaction Lab (ASIL), in Ghent, Belgium.
Featuring contributions from Diana Taylor (New York University), Laura Karreman (Utrecht University), Vinicius Torres Machado (State University of São Paulo), Tatiana Chemi (Aalborg University) and Cross Pollination (independent platform for embodied research).
This event critically examines the evolving intersections between performing arts and digital technologies, focusing on archival practices that engage with the immaterial and intangible dimensions of embodied knowledge in Performance Studies. How can the performer’s presence and practice be articulated within expanded documentation processes while preserving the—however elusive—substrata of the performative experience? How can such knowledge be transmitted and generate new embodied epistemologies?
Throughout this research day, the traditional theatrical laboratory will be reconfigured and broadened. The Art and Science Interaction Lab of Ghent University (ASIL, www.xrhil.ugent.be), its Motion Capture and 3D sound installations will be revisited and renegotiated, making room for new practices that generate novel forms of presence, modes of documentation and possibilities for reception, in which the invisible paradoxically becomes the most concrete element in the construction of artistic and embodied knowledge.
Warmly,
Adriana La Selva
This event is free, but registration is required.
